About volunteer movement in Tatarstan
The whole world celebrates the International Volunteer Day on 5 December (established in 1985 by the UN General Assembly). The Republic of Tatarstan is one of the pioneers of the volunteer movement in the history of modern Russia. The movement appeared in 2009 – after the victory of the city of Kazan in the competition for the right to host the 2013 Summer Universiade and gain a powerful impetus after the World Student Games, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, and the 2015 FINA World Championships. It is impossible to imagine world sports events in Russia and outside of Russia without volunteers.
For now, over 55,000 active users from the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian regions, and other countries are registered in the automated system under the flag of the Kazan Volunteers movement. Activists of the movement took part in the organization of more than 450 international and Russian events, they worked for more than 800,000 hours.
According to the Volunteering Development Centre of the Republic of Tatarstan, more than 900 organizations in the region unite more than 46,000 volunteers of the Republic of Tatarstan.
In 2018, 189 events involving volunteers took place in Tatarstan. Among the brightest of them are the FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia™, FINA Swimming World Cup 2018, Beach Handball World Championships 2018, Dobrogod (“Year of Goodness”) republican volunteer event. More than 6,000 volunteers took part in the event organization.
Traditionally, the most active volunteers and volunteer associations contributing to the organization of socially significant events and the development of volunteer activities are encouraged and motivated in the Republic of Tatarstan. Among the most popular events are the “Volunteer act” contest (organized by the Republican Youth Public Organization “Volunteering Development Centre of the Republic of Tatarstan”) and “Volunteer of the Year” ceremony (ANO Directorate for Sports and Social Projects).
We recall that in accordance with the Presidential Decree №583 of 6 December 2017, the year 2018 has been declared the Year of Volunteers.
