On Saturday, the Russian Diving Championships wrapped up in Kazan. Based on the results of the Russian Diving Championships, members of Team Russia to perform at FINA World Championships were selected. The FINA World Championships will take place on 12-28 July 2019 in Gwangju (South Korea).
The Men’s Team Russia will be represented by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nikita Shleikher (3m), Alexander Bondar and Igor Myalin (platform), Ilya Zakharov and Evgeny Kuznetsov (3m, synchro), Alexander Bondar and Viktor Minibaev (platform, synchro). The decision on the participation of Russian divers in 1m springboard event will be made later.
The Women’s Team Russia will be represented by Kristina Ilyinykh and Mariia Polyakova (1m, 2m, synchro), Ulyana Klyueva and Elena Chernykh (3m), Iuliia Timoshinina and Anna Chuynysheva (platform), Ekaterina Belyaeva and Iuliia Timoshinina (platform, synchro). Sergey Nazin and Kristina Ilyinykh will take part in mixed 3m springboard event, Nikita Shleikher and Iuliia Timoshinina will represent Russia in team event.
“You have seen that Ilya Zakharov’ condition is not very good. This is the reason why he has not been included in some events. But Nikita Shleikher’s dives were great! He has overcome a tricky way to the top. Igor Myalin’s victory was unexpected. He has not taken part in the international competitions for a long time. It should be noted that he is a champion of Europe (2010) among juniors. It seems he has grown up and achieved an appropriate level. The duet of Koroleva and Klyueva won in synchro diving among women. But the Coaches’ Council selected the duet of Ilyinykh and Polyakova. They are more experiences and famous, and have more chances to get a license for the Olympiad than the junior duet has”, admitted the head coach of Team Russia Svetlana Moiseeva.
