Team Russia makes it to quarter-finals in Rugby Europe Women’s Sevens Olympic Games Qualification Tournament

The Russian rugby players are now closer to secure their first-in-history berth at the 2020 Olympic Games, having made it to the playoffs of the qualifier in Kazan.

This Saturday, the Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Olympic Games Qualification Tournament 2019 kicked off for twelve countries. The winner automatically secures its ticket to Olympics 2020 to be held in Japan. Teams coming second and third will continue competing in the tournament’s next round.

At this tournament, Anna Gavrilyuk, Yana Danilova, Marina Kukina, Marina Myasnikova, Daria Noritsina, Kristina Seredina (all representing the Podmoskovie club), Snezhanna Kulkova and Alena Mikhaltsova (Yenisey), Anna Baranchuk and Daria Lushina (Kuban), Bayzat Khamidova (Krasny Yar), and Daria Shestakova (no club affiliation) make Team Russia headed by coach Andrey Kuzin. On Day 1 of the qualifier in Kazan, Team Russia won three games, beating Sweden, Germany, and England.
