On November 18, Moscow hosted a working meeting between Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov and President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
“We have a lot of topics to discuss. In the coming years, many international competitions will be held in Kazan, including the 2025 FINA World Championships,” the minister said after the conversation. “We plan to apply for the European Aquatics Championships. All conditions have been created for this thanks to large international competitions held such as the 2013 Summer Universiade and the 2015 FINA World Championships.”
“Besides, we discussed the concept of holding the so-called urban games in Kazan. These will be national competitions in new sports that are very popular among young people,” Pavel Kolobkov added.
“This year we organized many events with the support of the Ministry of Sport of Russia. Thank you for both financial and methodological assistance,” Rustam Minnikhanov said. “I want to thank the Ministry for the activities of the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects, which holds all the major events in the region.”
The President of Tatarstan said that the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects serves as the federal operator of the Ready for Labor and Defense complex, and also implements other large-scale projects. In particular, it acted as the direct organizer of the 45th WorldSkills Competition, which was held in Kazan in August 2019. “It's not a sport, but it's a competition – the same principles,” he said.
“Sport unites people, and for many of them it has become a way of life,” Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized. “And we will continue our cooperation with the Ministry of Sport of Russia in all areas.”
In addition, the parties discussed preparations for the CIS Games to be held in Kazan in 2020, as well as the prospects of holding the Sumo World Championships in the capital of Tatarstan.
