On February 5, the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation held a working meeting of Russia's Sport Minister Oleg Matytsin and President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov.
Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated Oleg Matytsin on his appointment as Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and expressed confidence that professionalism, knowledge and experience will help him achieve great results in strengthening the sports industry.
The parties discussed the progress of the federal project Sport is the Norm of Life in the region, as well as the joint projects for the organisation of sports events in the Republic of Tatarstan.
It was noted that the number of people involved in fitness and sports activities in the region increased by 3% over the year and amounted to 49.5%. The result was achieved through the implementation of the project Sport is the Norm of Life as part of which sites for GTO standards fulfilment are being supplied (they are to provided to all the region’s municipalities), the construction of a pool in Naberezhnye Chelny is being completed, and a number of other large venues on the territory of the Republic are being developed.
The President of Tatarstan told the Minister about the plans to further improve the sports infrastructure in the region, such as the construction in Kazan of the Beach Sports Centre, the ice palace and the athletic arena.
In addition, the parties discussed the preparation for and staging of sports events to be held in the Republic of Tatarstan in 2020. Of which the largest are the first CIS Games that will take place in Kazan from August 20 to 27. In addition to the sports events, the Games envisage a vast business program with the involvement of delegations of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
On Youth Day, Kazan will also host the Outdoor Extreme Sports Festival. In 2020, a number of international competitions will be held on the territory of Tatarstan – the World Cup series and Russian Championships in various sports.
