The SPORTS International Exhibition, the largest sports industry exhibition in Russia and the key industry event, kicked off at the Sokolniki Exhibiton and Convention Centre, Moscow on March 23. An interactive display booth dedicated to the GTO Complex was organised at the exhibition by the Sport Ministry of Russia and Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Moscow.

The seminar kicked off with a welcome speech by Russia’s Deputy Sport Minister Yury Nagornykh who stressed the importance of fighting doping in sport. “The idea of holding the seminar was brought forward by International Weightlifting Federation President Tamás Aján. The idea was strongly backed by Russia’s Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko,” Yury Nagornykh said. “The issue of doping and our fight against it is extremely important, especially in weightlifting. Tremendous work has been done in this regard and we are confident that the seminar will allow strengthening the fight against prohibited substances. After all doping is the threat to sport globally.”

Present at the event were President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov; Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Igor Levitin; Deputy Minister of Sport of Russia, Yury Nagornykh; Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin; Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Alexander Gerasimenko; IWF Director General Attila Adamfi; President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (RWF), Sergey Syrtsov; and Tatarstan’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport, Vladimir Leonov.

The European Judo Championships will be hosted at the Tatneft Arena Ice Palace, Kazan on April 21-24. The tournament is expected to feature 400 athletes and 200 team officials from more than 40 countries.
