Kazan (Russia) has organised numerous major international events in the past decade, including FINA World Championships 2015 and matches of the FIFA World Cup 2018. The city is transforming alongside the events and all citizens are welcoming athletes and visitors with a great warmth and hospitality. 

Today, the city known as the “Sports Capital” of Russia is ready to play an active role in a global arena. Recently, FINA has assigned Kazan an important international role within the future development of aquatics – FINA opened a new Centre for the development of aquatic sports in Kazan. This project will help Kazan position itself not only as global leaders in the event management industry, but as a proactive world hub in the further development of aquatics and international sport in general.

50,000 fans flocked in Abu Dhabi this weekend to witness one of the closest finishes in the history of the Red Bull Air Race. The 2017 World Champion Yoshihide Muroya was back to his blistering best when he took the win by a margin of just 0.003s – one of the closest in the sport’s history. Yoshihide Muroya stole the win from Martin Sonka by the smallest of margins. The result sets the tone for the eight-race season to come, and with third-place Michael Goulian (USA) just one point behind Šonka in the overall standings. In general, 14 elite contenders take part in the season featuring 8 races. The season will finish in November. On 15-16 June 2019, the Red Bull Air Race will be hosted by the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan – Kazan.

The Russian U18 Fencing Championships will take place at the Boxing and Table Tennis Centre (2a, Jaudat Faizi street), Kazan on 6-13 February 2019. Male and female fencers under 18 will participate in the tournament.

In 2019, the battle for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship will once again take flight in eight stunning locations, beginning with a traditional favourite and reaching its climax in a country that is a first-time host for the sport. On 15-16 June 2019, the best air race pilots will meet to compete for prizes in Kazan. The Red Bull Air Race World Championships gathered 128,000 spectators last year.

The International Children's Games for Olympic Champions’ Prizes (11th Alexander Popov Cup) kicked off in Kazan. The 11th Alexander Popov Cup combines six sporting events. The athletes will compete for prizes in Greco-Roman wrestling (Alexander Karelin prize); handball (Igor Lavrov prize); skiing (Alexander Legkov prize); rhythmic gymnastics (Daria Shkurikhina prize); synchronized swimming (Svetlana Romashina prize); swimming (Alexander Popov prize).

On 6-8 December 2018, the International Children's Games for Olympic Champions’ Prizes (11th Alexander Popov Cup) will take place in Kazan. An annual tournament has become traditional for young athletes since 2008. The 11th Alexander Popov Cup will be organized in a new way and combine 5 sporting events, except for a common swimming style.
