Russia will host its first race in the history of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship on 22-23 July 2017 when the series arrives in Kazan. The host agreement was signed today, March 2, at the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan. Present at the ceremony was President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. Immediately after the  agreement signing event, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan, Vladimir Leonov, and General Manager of the Red Bull Air Race, Erich Wolf, took questions from journalists.

On February 28, during the 16th Russian Investment Forum (Sochi 2017), the name of the first Ambassador of the Worldskills Competition 2019 was announced. The privilege to become the first Kazan 2019 Ambassador was granted to renowned Russian caterer, TV presenter and businessman Arkady Novikov. The official announcement ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Olga Golodets, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Director General of the Agency for the Development of Professional Communities and Skilled Workers (WorldSkills Russia) Robert Urazov.

The Tatarstan team has won a friendly match against legends of the Philadelphia Flyers HC, which took place at the Sport Palace in Kazan on 15 February. The final score was 7-6. The winner was determined through a series of penalty shots.

Today, on 1 February, issue of FAN IDs began in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup host cities. A FAN ID is a personalised spectator card, which is part of the football fans identification system. This card must be obtained by all spectators after purchasing a ticket for a 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup match. For foreign citizens and stateless persons, the FAN ID entitles visa-free entry for 10 days before the first match and 10 days after the last match of the 2017 Confederations Cup.

On 1 February, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, Pavel Kolobkov, awarded pins to Kazan residents who have completed the GTO tests at gold level. The award ceremony was held as part of the final panel of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan. The ceremony was attended by President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan, Vladimir Leonov.

In Kazan, a loyalty programme is being created for those who have successfully completed tests of the Russian National GTO Health and Fitness Programme (GTO Complex) at bronze, silver and gold levels. This was announced today at the extended panel session of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan. The programme, which is currently being developed in the Republic of Tatarstan, will be the first GTO loyalty programme focused on all categories of the population.

Today marks the end of the Competition Preparation Week, which has preceded the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 and has been taking place in the capital of the United Arab Emirates from 27 January to 31 January. The plenary sessions, working discussions, sponsor forum, and other activities of the Preparation Week have brought together over 300 people: technical delegates from WSI member nations and their assistants, international experts, partners and sponsors, team leaders, the WorldSkills International Secretariat, representatives of the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 and WorldSkills Kazan 2019 Organising Committee, observers, and journalists.

From 30 January to 2 February, 2017, Kazan will be hosting the meeting of the MINEPS VI Programme Committee. The participants will include members of the UNESCO, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS), the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), The Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA), the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Directorate for Sport and Social Projects.

From 1 to 3 February, 2017, the Republic of Tatarstan Regional Skills (WorldSkills Russia) Competition will take place in Kazan. 158 sets of medals will be contested at the competition. Experts from other regions of Russia will assess the performances of contestants. The Regional Competition will determine best representatives of the republic to participate in the federal qualifying industry competitions in the national championship in 2017. Participants will compete in 75 skills of the WorldSkills International movement.
