In 2020, Kazan will host one of the most important sports competitions in Tatarstan – CIS Games. Athletes aged 14 to 23 will compete for medals in 21 events. About 280 sets of medals are expected to be awarded.

About Games

The idea to stage the CIS Games was proposed by the Russian Federation. The proposal was supported during the meeting of the Council of CIS State Leaders in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) on September 28, 2018. 

Teams from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine are invited in Kazan for the competitions – a total of about 3,500 athletes and 1,100 officials. 

The event will be held in 21 sports: basketball (3x3), boxing, beach volleyball, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, water polo, judo, badminton, swimming, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, sambo, fencing, futsal, belt wrestling and koresh, karate, dance sport, arm-wrestling, mas-wrestling, kettlebell lifting, Thai boxing, chess.

Tournaments will be held in 15 venues. Delegations will be accommodated at the Universiade Village.

The Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation is the organizer of the Games. The Directorate of Sports and Social Projects is assigned to prepare and deliver the event.
